Welcome to The Coorie Space!
A community orientated space for parents, carers and babies to experience and learn about the benefits of nurturing touch and movement.
Clare at Coorie
Hello and welcome to baby massage and yoga classes at Coorie! It’s so lovely to have you here and, I hope, to meet you in person soon. My name is Clare and I started Coorie following the birth of my son in 2023. I am a trained primary school teacher, with the majority of my experience in the early years. ‘Coorie’ is a Scottish word meaning ‘to snuggle or nestle in’ and that is exactly how I would like you to feel about Coorie classes. It is so important to me that this is a space for you. To come and enjoy just being with your baby, meet others in the same season and feel supported, held and nurtured so that you can go and do the same for your little one. Parenthood is full of high highs and, let’s be honest, sometimes the lowest of lows but wherever you are in that journey, whatever you are going through, this space is for you, just as you are.
Bond
Gentle, nurturing touch and movement supports the release of oxytocin, the hormone of love, trust and connection. With benefits for both you and baby, oxytocin activates the parasympathetic nervous system fostering a sense of peace, security and balance allowing space for deep connections to develop.
Play
Baby massage and yoga offer a way to include developmental play in your daily life with your baby. Playing together encourages you and your baby to relax and be fully present in each other’s company, experiencing and exploring a range of different sensory input together. Play not only further enhances your bond with your baby but allows baby to practice all the new skills they are learning within a safe, secure environment.
Develop
At birth, a baby’s brain is 25% developed. At one year, it is 75%. The first two years of life are crucial in setting a positive foundation for the future. Through touch and movement, baby yoga and massage support healthy brain development, strengthen muscles and ligaments important for movement and, with a carefully planned multi sensory approach, promote sensory integration, processing and awareness. Healthy sensory integration means we are able to learn, play, socialise and generally function well in the world.
Meet
In Western society today, we often lack the support of the traditional ‘village’ when navigating parenthood and raising our children. Coorie classes are community orientated, meaning that intentional time is set aside for you in each class to talk to and share experiences with other parents and carers in the same season of life. Come as you are, whatever the previous night, day or week looked like for you, you are so very welcome.
